You choose the courses that meet your professional development interests and OLA will help pay the tuition. At OLA, we're committed to your professional development. Employees have many training options available to them including:

- in-house training programs tailored to specific job skills
- conferences and seminars sponsored by outside organizations
As a member of the OLA team, you'll receive at least 80 hours of continuing professional education (CPE) every two years. This includes in-house training programs designed by OLA's Quality Assurance and Professional Development Division as well as conferences and seminars sponsored by outside organizations such as the Maryland Association of CPA's and Institute of Internal Auditors. Our CPE programs improve your job skills, keep you up-to-date with the latest developments in the profession, and also satisfy the continuing education standards of our profession.
Flexible Work Schedules
Typically, OLA employees work a 40-hour week and have the option of working flexible hours each day. Employees working flextime can begin their 8-hour workday between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and end their workday between 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Employees also have the option of working a compressed work schedule enabling them to take a day off every other week or they can telework from home one day a week.
Vacation, Personal, Holiday and Sick Leave
OLA employees receive generous vacation, personal, holiday and sick leave benefits in addition to paid time off to sit for the CPA examination.
Employees with less than 5 years on staff earn 10 days of vacation leave each year. After 5 years, employees earn 15 days, after 10 years, they earn 20 days, and after 20 years, they earn 25 days each year. Employees also receive 6 days of personal leave and up to 12 paid holidays each year.
Employees also earn 15 days of sick leave each year that can be used for their own illnesses or for the illness of a member of their immediate family. Sick leave can also be accumulated and carried over from year to year to cover future needs.
Everyone's insurance needs are different. So, employees are offered a choice of comprehensive health insurance, life insurance and disability insurance options through benefit programs offered by the State of Maryland. Insurance packages are available to all employees and their dependents immediately upon joining the OLA staff. Among the numerous health insurance options are dental coverage, vision care and a prescription drug program.
All employees participate in the State Pension System. Employees starting on or after July 1, 2011 become vested after ten years of service while employees starting prior to that date become vested after five years of service. Deferred compensation plans such a 401k are also available.
